We Need You!

Last year the Orange and Black lost its long time faculty supervisor with the retirement of Mrs. Paula Frank. Initially it looked like it would be the end of our historical school newspaper, but then Mrs. Lisa Smith and Mr. Jason Suter stepped up to try and keep it going. There is still one major problem though, Mrs. Smith and Mr. Suter are not well versed in running a newspaper. In fact, one might go so far as to say they know nothing about it. Both agree on the vision to move to a digital format that relies heavily on social media to not only keep the Orange and Black alive, but to make it great again!

The Orange and Black needs to be a place where everyone invested in the future of Hanover High School can express their views, gather information on what is happening, and share the stories that matter. Moving to a digital format will allow “the paper” to reach through our walls and touch the community while keeping our students, teachers, and administrators in touch with the feelings, concerns, and successes of our student body. A digital format will also allow for the readership to comment on posted articles. This ability to begin conversations and dialog within The Orange and Black website is probably the best reason for moving to a digital format.

In short, The Orange and Black needs you to make it successful! We need students with a wide range of interests to step up and make the continuation of this long standing newspaper a reality. There are many ways in which you can help. You can certainly submit articles to be posted without taking an active role as a staff member. If you would like to get more involved you can become a staff member and start working to rebuild The Orange and Black from the ground up. Currently there are no specific roles. Students are needed to create them and make them happen. This is your opportunity to invest your time, drive, and passion into something that could truly be great and get noticed both within and beyond our school hallways.

Even though there are no specific roles at this time, we can be fairly certain students will be needed in the following areas. If any of these spark your interest please speak to Mrs. Smith or Mr. Suter as soon as possible!

Possible roles at The Orange and Black:

  • Editor - Someone to read and edit articles before they are posted on The Orange and Black website.
  • Webmaster - Someone who can work with the back end of the website for The Orange and Black to make sure everything is working properly.
  • Graphic Designer - Do you love designing digital graphics. Share your talents with The Orange and Black. As the site grows maybe community businesses might take notice of your talents as well.
  • Social Media Experts - Like Twitter, Instagram, and other social media sites. Help manage our accounts to keep everyone informed on the latest happenings.
  • Writers - One of the most important roles at any newspaper! We need people to cover academics, sports, arts, music, and all the other important happenings at our school.
